Porto is located in northern Portugal, along the scenic Douro River, just a few kilometers from the Atlantic Ocean and approximately 280 km north of Lisbon. It is the second-largest city in Portugal, renowned worldwide for its Port wine, historic charm, and vibrant cultural life.

Designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site , Porto’s historic center showcases impressive architecture such as the Clérigos Tower, Palácio da Bolsa, São Luis Bridge, and the iconic São Bento Railway Station, famous for its hand-painted tilework.

Beyond its rich architectural and cultural heritage, Porto has a thriving contemporary scene with museums, galleries, gardens, and modern landmarks like Serralves and the Casa da Música.

Porto is also a city of flavors. Its gastronomic culture includes regional specialties such as the beloved francesinha and tripas à moda do Porto, alongside a growing number of restaurants recognized for culinary innovation.

The city boasts a robust industrial and technological ecosystem, with numerous companies operating in sectors such as mechanical engineering, electronics, furniture manufacturing, and automotive components. A network of research centers, startups, and business incubators supports a dynamic innovation ecosystem, with universities such as the University of Porto playing a leading role.

Porto has received multiple international tourism awards, including Best City Destination in the World (2022) at the World Travel Awards. It is a safe and welcoming city, with a mild summer climate (typically between 15°C and 25°C in June), excellent public transport, and easy access via Francisco Sá Carneiro International Airport.

MMT 2026 coincides with São João do Porto (St. John’s Festival), the city’s most famous celebration, held on the evening of June 23rd. Expect an unforgettable night of street music, fireworks over the Douro River, paper lanterns, grilled sardines, and joyous crowds filling every corner of the city. It’s a wonderful opportunity for participants to experience Porto’s cultural spirit at its liveliest.

We warmly invite you to join us at FEUP in Porto for MMT 2026 — for a stimulating academic program, vibrant networking, and an exceptional cultural experience.
