Reuleaux Models Collection Exhibition – June 22-23 | 8:30 – 19:30
MMT Symposium takes place at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto, FEUP, located in Porto. The origins of the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Porto date back to 1762, with the creation of the Nautical Classroom. In 1837, it was renamed the Academia Polytechnica do Porto (Polytechnic Academy of Porto), considered to be the first engineering school in the country.
Still during the XIX century, Azevedo Albuquerque, the late responsible for the course of Rational Mechanics and Kinematics at Academia Polytechnica do Porto, introduced the method of Franz Reuleaux. In 1880 The academic board of the Academia Polytechnica do Porto acquired the Gustav Voigt kinematics models, which are still owned by FEUP. A free-access exhibition of the collection’s models is available throughout the two-day conference, on the ground floor of FEUP’s library.
Welcome Reception – Sunday, June 21 | 15:00 – 18:00
The Welcome Reception and pre-registration will take place at Círculo Universitário do Porto. This is one of the noble spaces of the University of Porto. Círculo Universitário do Porto is installed in one of the nineteenth-century palaces located in this area of Campo Alegre. This XIX century palace is framed within a romantic garden composed of camellias and centenary trees and serves as the official “house” of all of University of Porto Alumni. Please make sure to join us to celebrate the start of MMT Symposium while enjoying this noble space with refreshments and a musical performance.

By Metro: The nearest metro station is “Casa da Música” and is about a 30-minute walk away. Historically associated with special occasions, Porto wine has naturally found its place in moments of celebration and recognition. Closing the first day of MMT Symposium, this Porto de Honra symbolically celebrates 60th anniversary of the inaugural issue of the Journal of Mechanisms, published under the editorship of Professor Francis Rendel Erskine Crossley in the spring of 1966.

MMT Symposium Banquet – Tuesday, June 23 | 19:00
The São João (St. John) MMT Symposium Banquet will take place at Hilton Porto Gaia. The venue is very close to the heart of St. John’s festival. This Festival has been celebrated for hundreds of years, at least since the XIV century. On St. John’s day the city is boiling with activity from dusk to dawn. Hundreds of thousands of people flood the historic streets of Porto to celebrate and share. For this reason, it is very important that you buy the Metro pass (“Andante”) to get to the Banquet’s venue, at least one day in advance at any metro station. If you go by Metro, get off at the “Jardim do Morro” metro station and enjoy one of the best views of Porto. Afterwards, walk down the hill for a small walk along the Douro River before finally reaching the venue.

The Hilton Porto Gaia is the result of an extensive and meticulous refurbishment of former Port wine warehouses in the historic district of Vila Nova de Gaia and opened its doors to the public in September 2021.
After the São João MMT Symposium Banquet is closed It is suggested that MMT Symposium participants enjoy the St. John’s Festival fireworks.
